There were four lepers who sat at the gate of a particular city called Samaria. In those days, lepers were usually ostracized out of the society. Thereby, rending them helpless.
So, the situation of these certain lepers rendered them hungry, poor, and helpless. As a result, they became beggars, famous beggars at that in the city of Samaria.
However, a time came when this certain city was besieged by its enemy, and this led to a serious famine in the land. The famine was serious that parents were eating their dead children.
The lepers found themselves in a graver situation at this time, as no one could even give anything to them. However, this situation let them to think how they could survive.
While they were contemplating about what to do about their pitiable situation they said one to another:
“Why sit we here until we die? If we say, ‘We will enter into the city’, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.”
So they rose up in the dusk and went into the camp of the Syrians (enemy’s camp) and when they approached the camp, there was no man there because God had already made the enemy to flee.
When these lepers came to the camp, unsure of what was going to happen, they found absolutely no enemy. They went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and enriched themselves with spoils of war.
That was how in just a single moment, the lepers who were in a dire situation became wealthy overnight. You can read the full story in 2 Kings 7.
Now, I want you to think critically about this story. It perfectly explains what is going on around the world and in the lives of different people. Famine is not limited to lack of food; it can come in diverse ways.
Today, a lot of people are in financial famine — they are broke and can’t afford most things they need because of lack of money. When you find yourself in such situation, what do you do? Take a cue from the leper.
The reason many are financially stuck today is plainly seen in the story I shared above. Many are financially and generally stuck because they are just not ready to make a move. That is what is killing many people in this country and beyond.
I tell you, if those four lepers were to remain in their situation without making any move, they probably would have died, obviously. And truth is, their situation was so hopeless that whatever excuse they gave themselves would have been absolutely legitimate.
Nevertheless, this leper didn’t give themselves any excuse. They didn’t allow their situation to debar them from making a move. They were ready to die even by the decision they made. That is how to escape financially instability in your life or any other famine you are experiencing.
You just must not sit and do nothing. What I see commonly in most youths nowadays which is debarring them from achieving great results in their lives is because they just want someone who will save them from their situation without them doing anything.
If this is also your mentality, kill it right now. It’s a poverty and deadly mentality. You must be ready to make a move to see the change you really desire in your life.
You want to make money consistently, but what is your skill? What value are you willing to bring to the table? You want a certain result in a particular aspect of life, how many classes have you taken in that area?
It is not enough to say you don’t have money to take that class. By giving yourself such flimsy excuse, you are saying that you are prepared to die in that your situation of lack. It’s that simple. That is why you see some people are ‘making it’ and some people are dying in abject poverty.
If you want to get out of poverty for life, you must be ready to learn from people, invest madly in yourself and take some radical decisions that people may even abuse you of.
Always think about those four lepers and learn from their actions and decision. They’ve provided every person with the blueprint to escape any bad situations in life.
Just imagine it yourself, they put their lives on the line to go to the enemy’s camp. They were lepers, they could have been killed and no one would even come to fight for them. However, this wasn’t even enough excuse for them not to try. Isn’t that just remarkable?
It was because they were ready to leave their poor situation and they were not ready to die in hunger that prompted them to make a move and God made way for them. Let me be frank with you, no amount of “God make way for me” prayer will be sufficient for you, if you are not ready to combine that prayer with action.
What move are you making? What price are you paying? What class are you taking? What sacrifice are you making? What book are you reading? Who is your mentor? Who is coaching you? Who are you serving? Who is your role model? These are the questions you should have answers for.
It’s not just enough to wish to be financially stable, you must be ready to pay the price.
I’m Emmanuel, the exceptional being.
